Hunger Games Movie

Hunger Games MovieDirector Gary Ross has been hired by Lionsgate to bring the Hunger Games to the big screen. For those who don't know, The Hunger Games is a 2008 young-adult science-fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. The story follows a young girl thrown into a survival contest in a dystopian future. Suzanne Collins adapted the novel for film herself, and her script is being revised by screenwriter Billy Ray.

Producer Alli Shearmur said about the Hunger Games:

"The Hunger Games is an incredible property and it is a thrill to bring it home to Lionsgate. This is exactly the kind of movie I came to Lionsgate to make: youthful, exciting, smart and edgy. We are looking forward to working with Nina and Suzanne to create a movie that satisfies audiences' hunger for high-quality entertainment."
Alli Shearmur,
Lionsgate President of Motion Picture Production

Plot:
"Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once stood. This is where a powerful government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power.
The Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's power."

A few words from Director Gary Ross about his take on the Hunger Games:

"What makes Katniss attractive is her strength and her assuredness and her defiance and ultimately her compassion. And I don’t mean just physical strength. I mean a real strength as a human being. She knows her own truth. She feels deeply and fiercely. And this is something that the actress has to bring with her.

We'll cast the right person for the part. Lionsgate has been great in the respect that they don't feel that this needs a movie star in Katniss' role. The greatest thing about the franchise and the books being the star is that we can cast whoever we want. So we all feel like we’re just going to cast the right person."
